Office Talk

Managing the
“Autos” in MS
Office
I can’t count the
number of times I
have begun a list
in a Word document
by typing “1,”
only to look up to
find that my 1 is
now indented by a
quarter inch and
the text by a half
inch, which was

display size.

noticed that it is
taking longer to
turn on (or
“boot-up” as they
say in computerese)?
Do programs take
longer to run
too? Are you
getting lots of
“pop-up” windows
asking about
things that you
don’t know
anything about?
Well, it is
normal for a
computer to slow
up with age and
show some other
symptoms of not
being as quick as
it was when it was
new. The reasons
for this are many.
